We went to Bradbury's Coffee in Downtown Madison this morning. I had heard really good things about this place and was really excited to go try it out. Elena was in a super good mood while we were there, she was all giggles.
The shop itself is pretty small, so seating is pretty limited. I'm glad we waited until later morning to go, because I had my stroller and it took up a lot of space. The decor is very modern, the walls being mostly glass with poured concrete. The menus were written on the concrete with chalk, which looked pretty cool. I felt a little old to be hanging out in this shop, there were mostly college kids there.
Bradbury's uses all local ingredients, including Sassy Cow milk. They have crepes that are raved about, but I didn't think I would have enough time to eat and drink coffee. I ordered a latte and an espresso. The latte was perfect, it's the first time I've seen latte art in Madison. The barista explained that all of their espresso-based drinks are served double ristretto, which I learned is a the last 2/3 of a double shot. This results in almost all creme and better flavor. I'm going have to try pulling double ristretto at home. I tried the guest roast for my espresso, and it was fantastic.
They had a Synesso machine, which was pretty fancy. It had individual pressure adjustments on all the group heads, so they can fine tune each for a different roast. Their espresso grinder was a Mazzer Super Jolly. They feature Kickapoo Coffee from Viroqua, WI, but also carry a guest roast which was out of Colorado today.
I will be back to try a crepe with Sarah and Elena in the future. I don't think I'd dine in again, but I'd go there for a take out order. The place is just too small to try to accommodate a baby. The coffee was superior to anything I've had in Madison so far. Their website is www.bradburyscoffee.com
