Eric and I decided that we have so much going on right now that we wanted a means of recording all of our happenings.
The excitement all began in October of 2009 when we finally booked a trip to Italy. I had been talking about traveling to Europe since we could remember. Neither Eric nor I have ever been to Europe. It kept getting put off, especially since we had decided to expand our family. We weren't having any luck getting pregnant so we decided to go on with life and book my dream vacation. Also during this time, I was preparing to graduate in December with my masters degree and Eric was preparing to graduate in December with his bachelor's degree.
Holly, a friend from work, and I decided that we, along with our husbands, should do a tour of Italy for spring break. So, the last weekend in October, we booked a trip to spend three nights in Rome, three nights in Florence, and two nights in Venice. We couldn't have been more excited, or so we thought...
Two weeks later, Eric and I were preparing to go to La Crosse for my Grad program. I was busy preparing to present the research I had been working on during the past year and finishing up last minute projects for my program. Since we had been trying to get pregnant, I was very aware of when my period would come. It was the Wednesday before I was supposed to go to La Crosse. We were out of pregnancy tests so I told Eric that I would like to take a test on Thursday morning to put myself out of my misery. I was pretty depressed at this point about not being pregnant. We had been trying for a little over a year. Eric stopped by Walgreens and picked up some generic tests.
The next morning, I got up as usual, leaving Eric and Mulligan fast asleep in bed. I took the test and it instantly started showing the desired two lines. My heart began pounding so hard I thought I might pass out. I walked over to Eric and shook him and said urgently, "Eric, you have to see this." He didn't know what was going on because he was still half asleep. He stumbled into the bathroom still squinting his eyes. I handed him the test and while rubbing his eyes he looked at the test, smiled and looked at me. He immediatly hugged me and gave me a kiss. I began crying and we were both in shock. I still didn't believe it was true and thought maybe the generic test was inaccurate. I made Eric go back to Walgreens and get a better test. When he returned, I decided I would wait until the next morning to retake the test.
Throughout the day, I began to believe it more and that night when we got home from work, I took the test again. This time on a Clear Blue Digital test. It immediately said Pregnant. This was one of the happiest days of our life.
Now, the adventure has really begun!
