Telling Eric's Family the Big News

Saturday, January 23, 2010
We were celebrating Thanksgiving with Eric's side of the family the day after Thanksgiving, but we couldn't wait to tell Eric's parents. We decided to tell them after dinner with my family.

Every year, I go shopping with Eric's mom the morning after Thanksgiving. Eric called his parents Thursday evening and told them that we were unable to get a newspaper with the ads (which was a lie). He asked if we could go over to their place to prepare for the following day. When we arrived, they had the ads out and we began flipping through the ads, not looking at anything. They asked Eric if there were things he wanted to get for his new camera that he had recently purchased. Eric replied, "Well, I probably won't be buying any new things for my camera for a while, since we're having a baby." He looked up and his parent hesitated for a second, taking a moment to realize what he had just said. I think one of them said, "what?" with excitement. He said, "Yeah, Sarah's pregnant." They gave us a hug and were extremely happy and excited!

We decided that we would tell the rest of his family the next day at dinner. We sat down to dinner and we were about to start eating when Eric's mom asked if anyone had anything to say before dinner. Eric said, "We have a lot to be thankful for this year. We all have jobs, homes, and a baby on the way." Everyone looked stunned. He continued," Sarah's pregnant." They seemed pretty shocked but then congratulated us and we had a great meal.
