12-week Appointment

Monday, January 25, 2010
A few weeks after our first appointment, I started feeling better with more energy. This was good except it made me feel less pregnant. Since I am the queen of worrying, I began to worry that something had happened to the baby. I felt good, but I just get nervous and start thinking of the worst case scenarios.

This time, when we arrived at the appointment, we felt a little more comfortable. When we went back with the nurse, it began feeling a little more routine. I first got weighed (I maintained my weight from last time which was great since I had been sick for the previous two weeks with a cold and then stomach flu).

When we went in the room to meet with the nurse, it was more relaxed than the first time, because there wasn't as much to go through. I actually admitted to her that we had no idea what we were doing. She seemed to slow down and explain things more. I really appreciated this.

Then she said she would check the baby's heartbeat and let us hear it. I was so excited! She had me lay down on the table and she put the cold gel on my stomach. I hardly noticed it because I was so excited. She warned us that it might take a little while to find it so we shouldn't worry. Friends had warned me of this. I was thrilled when she found it right away. Just like the first appointment, it was amazing. The most amazing thing I have ever heard. It took my breath away. The nurse said, "That's a good sound." I could barely manage to say, "Yeah." I was so overwhelmed with excitement. Eric was just as excited. Both of us were so mesmerized by the sound we didn't hear what the heartrate was, but she said it was good.

When the doctor came in, we went over a few questions and that was about it.

I wonder if every appointment will be so amazing?
