First Appointment - 8 weeks

Monday, January 25, 2010
On Monday, December 14, we had our first appointment with our baby doctor. We were about 8 weeks along. I was incredibly nervous. I was convinced that they were going to tell me that their was no baby. Eric was much more confident. We met at the clinic and went to the OB/GYN section of the clinic. We had no idea what to expect. After we checked in, we went to a room with our nurse. She talked so fast and gave us so much information. After giving us an overview and going through our medical history, she said that the doctor would be in shortly. We were still in a daze from all of the information, when our doctor came in. She was much more laid back. I immediately felt more comfortable. She congratulated us and went over a few things and then said that we would go into the other room for an ultrasound. I was really nervous.

As soon, as I saw the beating of the baby's heartbeat on the screen, I felt an enormous sense of relief. I squeezed Eric's hand and we smiled at each other. We both felt that it was the most amazing thing we had ever seen. Even writing about it now brings me to tears. All I remember is how the doctor apologized for it looking more like a blob than a baby, but I didn't care. I thought it was perfect.

She told us the baby had a good heart beat (about 170 bpm). She also told us that there was just one baby. I blurted out, "Good!" I didn't know if Eric and I were ready for twins. We love our twin nephews, but I give my brother and sister-in-law a lot of credit.

The doctor finished the ultrasound and left the room so I could get dressed. I immediately started crying. I just felt this huge wave of emotion. I was so relieved and so happy to see the baby. The pregnancy felt much more real at that moment.
