2 Months - More Malts for Sarah, Doctors Orders

9/13/10

We had our 2 month check-up for Elena today. Elena appears to be doing quite well. Our only concern is that she is rather small. She weighed in at 8lbs. She gaining the bare minimum that they like to see so we will be returning in 3 weeks for a weight check. In the meantime, the doctor has ordered that I increase my intake of Culver's malts. :) She said that maybe Elena will gain more weight if I increase my fat intake. We'll see. Otherwise, she said Elena is right on track developmentally and she might just stay a peanut and that is okay.

Elena also had a set of vaccinations at this appointment. I'm not sure who was more traumatized, me or Elena. The nurse tried to prepare me by saying that it can be difficult for moms to see their babies get shots. I figured that I had seen Elena cry before so I could handle it. The nurse was very quick which was great, but Elena had this look over terror on her face and let out a horrible scream. Then, she took what seemed like forever to begin breathing again. I think I had more tears than Elena. She seemed to recover from it quickly and she really didn't have much of a reaction to the vaccinations. She was a little sensitive in her legs, but not bad.

She continues to sleep for five ours before she needs a feeding. Elena started smiling at about 6 weeks. Her smile definitely lights up the room. :)
